Jay Morris for State Representative
Education
Every election cycle, we hear endless polices about reforming our education system. There is no disagreement that the Georgia education system needs to be updated; the state ranks lowest in math, reading, and STEM programs. Our teachers, whose job is to shape young minds, are hindered from doing so by the politics that prevent them from doing so. I will fight to desize classrooms to 15-20 students, bring trades back into our high schools, support civic class programs and school mock government programs, invest in equal funding for our schools, and place taxes on the vouchers to increase funding for public schools. As well, I will fight for pay raises for our teachers, mental health support in our schools, expanding teachers' tax write-offs, expanding union right of public school teachers, push for and expanding free universal pre-k program, give day care tax empetions, pushing for the expanison of trade scholarship programs, fight of career-ready programs in school preparing students for the workforce. I will fight for debt relief of those who work endlessly in our classroom to shape young minds to become greater.
Voting Rights
The Secretary of State has the power to remove people from the state's voter rolls. This action led thousands, even millions, to our there right to vote. I will fight to remove the power of purging people of the voter rolls, remove power from the Secretary of State to oversee elections when he/she is active in elections(i.e running for a office or up for relection), expand early voting, allow same day registering, poll safety, and I will fight to gerrymandering in the state.
Affordable Housig
The wealthy shouldn't be the only individuals who can afford a house in Georgia. Hardworking people shouldn't be forced to work 3.5 full-time jobs to pay for rent in the State. I will fight to bring down the cost of housing by building 50,000 income-based houses and adding 50,000 public homes, and 20,000 private homes to the supply to reach the demand. I will fight to cut and cap the property at .64%. I will fight to exempt first-time home buyers from paying property tax for the first 3 years of owning the home. Reduce the influx of large and medium investors in the Georgia Housing market. As well, I will fight to expand tenants' rights protection, and I will fight for rent control.
Public Safety
The safety of our Public is threatened by loose firearm laws, lack of mental health support, lack of access to healthcare, youth engagement, traffic safety, and the need for robust emergency services. Addressing these concerns should be bipartisan, to make sure people are and feel safe. I will fight to raise the age to 25 to own a firearm, support mental health programs in schools for students, teachers, and parents, increase number small clenits in rual areas to increase the acess to healthcare, I will fight to increase the voices of our youth, and I willl work with our local laws enforcement officers to bring down our crime rate.
Economy
The economy of Georgia is built to drain the pockets of hardworking Georgians. Our state Economy is expecting to slow down, which might push the state into a recession. I will fight removing the flat tax rate and replacing it with a progressive tax system with an individual rate of 3.47% and a corporate tax rate of 4.47%, saving the lower and middle-income earners thousands annually. Expanding the tax credit for teachers to be $3,500, $1,500 for first-time teachers, and tax incentives to companies to come and create jobs with the Port of Savannah.
Infrastructure
Georgia's infrastructure is currently sitting at a C+ grade. This shows us that our infrastructure needs improvement. I am going to fight to repair our road, invest in our ports, push for clean and eco-friendly energy, update our drinking water, and find ways to update our storm drainage system.
